5 S of How to Taste Wine Like a Pro

It's all about 'your taste' when it comes to wine; there is no right or incorrect taste. Wine tasting is the process of identifying the type of wine that best suits your preferences. The ability to savour a flavour is due to the combination of scent and taste. It's a valuable skill to learn how to taste wine like a pro. In Lethbridge liquor is quite popular and widely available. However, wine holds a unique place in the hearts of Lethbridge residents.

So, here are the 5 S of how to taste wine like a pro:

(1) SIGHT: Slightly tilt your glass and hold it in the light or against a pale or white background to see the colour of the wine. Depending on the type of wine you're drinking, the colour will vary. The colour of a young red wine will be bright-raspberry whereas the colour of an older red wine could range from mahogany to brick. White wines range in colour from pale green to yellow to deep golden brown on the contract, and they develop more golden as they age.

(2) SWIRL: The next step is to swirl the glass gently while grasping the stem. You can swirl freehand or with the help of a table top or other flat surface. Simply hold the stem in your hand and make little circles for at least 10-20 seconds. The purpose of swirling is to aerate and release vapours from the wine. This method coats the insides of the glass with a layer of wine, increasing the pace of evaporation and amplifying the aroma.

(3) SNIFF: Inhale deeply and enjoy the aroma of your wine. The aroma is more flowery and fruity as you got closer to the top of the glass. It will become richer as you move deeper into the tasting. The taste receptors in your nose are more numerous than those in your tongue. As a result, sniffing deeply before tasting becomes even more vital.

(4) SIP: Take a nice sip and squish the wine around in your mouth before swallowing. To obtain the most textural impact, make sure you coat every taste bud you hit. This will give you a much better sense of the wine's flavour and texture in your mouth. You'll notice a variety of characteristics about the wine here, including its flavour, sweetness, dryness, acidity, tannins, alcohol, body, silkiness, roughness, and more.

(5) SAVOUR: Take a sip of your wine and reflect on your experience. What are your thoughts on the matter? Is it well-balanced? Are there any distinguishing characteristics? What have you discovered about wine so far? Feel the flavour and rate it using your sensory checklist of characteristics.
